“What did you say…? You won’t even divorce me…?”
“Yes, you heard me right. If you think you will marry on your own free will and give a divorce on your own, then you are wrong. I am not going to free you to do what you’re doing with me today with someone else in the future.”
“When you are not happy with me and you do not like my behaviour, why don’t you divorce me?”
“Yes, Veeresh, I am not happy with you; but I want to be happy. Your behaviour towards me is not good, but I want you to treat me well. You do not respect me, but I want respect from you. And what I want from you, I cannot get it by divorcing you. However, I may get it only by saving this relationship and improving you.”
“But we cannot save this relationship any more, also as I am going to stay the same.”
“I am a woman and I have full faith in my power. You may keep thinking I am feeble.”
“Diksha Madam, I am a well-known lawyer in the city. Don’t you believe it?”
“I also believe that the power of your advocacy cannot surpass the humanity and conviviality of relationships.”
“Well then, I’ll send you the notice tomorrow. Be prepared to be proved characterless in the court of law.”
“That’s right. But before summoning me in court, think well that you will be responsible for your honour and insult, lest your hackneyed formula should be disqualified from the practice of law.”
Friends, if I were a character in this story and were present in the court, I would have well depicted the climax of the story. But I want to share with you what I heard yesterday from a bird swinging in the cool breeze while clinging to a cage from outside.
About six months later, the wife of the couple who came out of the room of the honorable judge was very happy. The judge granted her a period of two years to repair her relationship called ‘husband’.
